New plan from Toronto transit leaders could break logjam

Toronto’s clustered streets have become a nightmare for many Torontonian drivers over the years. Many people have found refuge through our TTC though. At the moment, the TTC provides only a limited amount of transportation and is flooded with people during rush hours. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Chair Karen Stintz and her vice-chair Glenn De Baeremaeker have recently proposed a solution for this. “OneCity” is a $30 billion dollar project that will course over 30-years. Their plan is to make 6 brand new subway lines, 10 light rail transit lines, and 5 bus and streetcar routes to like the city together. Although this project sounds great, the concern is that it is very costly. Property taxes would increase by 1.9% meaning the average Torontonian homeowner would have to pay an extra $180 annually.
In my opinion, this project would be great for Toronto and the sooner they begin development, the better. "OneCity" will not only benefit adults but also students like myself. Also, many adults don't have a drivers license and cannot get one due to health issues. Creating new roads and trying to improve the current streets will only benefit part of the population. This project may even save some people some money since the maintenance of have a car is quite high. Having a larger subway will be cheaper, faster and much more convenient.
